A friendly reminder that having a “well-formed conscience” means that you are free to decide how to act in accord with your best understanding of the Church’s teaching. It doesn’t mean you get to decide whether to act in accord with your best understanding of the Church’s teaching. To put it bluntly: if your conscience tells you that the traditional teaching of the Church is wrong, your conscience sucks. You know a pretty good test for determining if your conscience is actually well-formed? If the thing you disagree with the Church about just happens to be exactly the thing you want to be able to do.
