My 20th anniversary
Yvonne and I celebrated our 20th anniversary yesterday. I was married when I was 20, so I have now been married half my life. The second half is the better half. With my better half. If you’re counting, that’s about 10,518,975 minutes. It feels like almost no time has passed though. God willing, when we celebrate our 50th anniversary, it will feel like even less time has passed. Yes, less. Sometimes I used to wonder if heaven will feel “slow” somehow after millions of years. Marriage has taught me why that isn’t the case. The deeper you love someone, the quicker time spent with them seems to go. This is why time spent with your beloved seems to pass in seconds, when sometimes it has been hours.
I have come home at last! This is my real country! I belong here. This is the land I have been looking for all my life, though I never knew it till now…Come further up, come further in!
Further up and further in is the only way to have a real marriage. I hope that on our 50th, if we are asked how long we have been married, we will look at each other and think, “It doesn’t feel long at all now. Years? No. Must be just a few days. I think it was only today.”
